About

Kimberly Olsen is a bold and visionary leader in the field of regenerative agriculture, with a career that bridges hands-on farming practice and cutting-edge environmental science. She envisions a future where farming regenerates the land and ecosystems, rather than depleting them, and she has the expertise to make this vision a reality. Kimberly’s approach is rooted in practicality and evidence – a combination that earns respect from farmers on the ground as well as scientists in the lab. Her new regenerative agriculture enterprise is built on the principle that profitable agriculture and a healthy environment can (and must) grow together, delivering benefits for both growers and the land.

Collaborative Solutions for Growers and the Environment

Throughout her career, Kimberly has worked side-by-side with growers and within government-supported programs to pioneer sustainable farming solutions. As Senior Project Officer (Sugar) at NQ Dry Tropics – the natural resource management body for North Queensland’s Dry Tropics region – she was involved in innovative initiatives to improve soil health and water quality in sugarcane farming. Notably, Kimberly assisted with the introduction of the “Reef Tender” program in the Burdekin region, a groundbreaking, market-based approach that incentivised cane farmers to reduce fertiliser runoff while maintaining high yields

. This program proved that empowering farmers with the right support can lead to dramatic reductions in fertiliser use without sacrificing crop performance

. By aligning agricultural practices with environmental goals, Kimberly helped farmers save money on inputs, improve their soil, and protect the water flowing to the Great Barrier Reef – a win for the growers and for science-based conservation. Her ability to translate big environmental ideas into workable farm solutions has made her a trusted partner in several grower-focused and government-funded projects aimed at sustainable land management.

A Journey Fueled by Passion and Science

Kimberly’s personal journey in agriculture began in the rich soils of Far North Queensland’s sugar industry, where she first honed her expertise in soil fertility and plant nutrition. Working directly with cane farmers, she developed a practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in improving soil health for better crop yields. Early in her career, her passion for sustainability led her into research on coastal ecosystems – she co-authored a pioneering study on the effects of prawn farm effluent on mangrove creek ecosystems near Cairns

This research experience reinforced her dedication to protecting natural systems and finding solutions that balance productivity with ecological health. Building on these foundations, Kimberly took on leadership roles that merged science with on-ground action. At NQ Dry Tropics, she not only launched programs like Reef Tender but also guided farmers through best practices in nutrient management, erosion control, and innovative regenerative agriculture techniques. Her efforts have consistently shown that regeneration is both an environmental imperative and a practical strategy for farmers – improving water quality and soil carbon while keeping farms profitable and resilient. Today, Kimberly Olsen channels her decades of experience and passion into her new regenerative agriculture venture. She stands at the forefront of a movement, offering bold yet field-tested strategies to restore soil vitality, increase biodiversity on farms, and ensure long-term agricultural success. Kimberly’s story – from soil scientist and researcher to on-ground project leader and now entrepreneur – is driven by a simple but powerful belief: when you work with nature, you empower farmers and communities to thrive. With her visionary leadership and collaborative spirit, Kimberly’s regenerative agriculture business is set to inspire change and cultivate a healthier, more sustainable future for farming in Australia and beyond.

About BeCrop and Biome Makers

What is Biome Makers and BeCrop®?

At the heart of healthy soil is a vibrant, living community of microbes. Biome Makers is a global ag-tech company that helps farmers unlock the power of this living soil by using advanced DNA analysis and artificial intelligence to understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

Their core tool, BeCrop®, is the world’s leading soil biology test. It doesn’t just tell you what’s in your soil — it reveals what your soil is doing.

BeCrop® works by analysing the DNA of thousands of microbes in your soil and matching that to a global database of over 20 million microbial references. It then reports back on how well your soil is supporting critical functions like:

  • ✅ Nitrogen cycling

  • ✅ Organic matter breakdown

  • ✅ Root growth support

  • ✅ Disease risk and resilience

  • ✅ Carbon storage potential

This means you can make smarter decisions — not just about what to apply, but where and why.
